Professional HVAC Detective saved my life!

My experience with the Sears team has been excellent! I first learned about Sears through my next-door neighbor who has a recent full HVAC install. My neighbor also shared her Mother and Dad have been customers since the 1950's. It is this strong devotion to excellent customer service and professionalism that has kept my neighbor and her family coming back to Sears year after year! Service after the sale is not dead with this organization! I had been having some crazy high bills over the years even before the recent Columbia Gas rate hikes and grew even more concerned over the years when I began to have strange symptoms whenever I was at home. I always felt better away from my home when I was working at the hospital. I now believe it has been low-grade symptoms of CO poisoning- as a healthcare provider I should have put this together sooner! My tech Josh was immediately able to diagnose a cracked heat exchanger that when damaged can leak CO into living spaces or start a fire. He also discovered the capacitance system is below specifications due to poor install from another company- another efficiency and safety hazard. Josh basically with his detective work saved my life from CO poisoning and possible fire as the units in my building had NEVER been serviced by the owner since 1999 install. I am so deeply grateful to Josh and his company. Also, all of my work with the office team and even VP Bryan Meier has been deeply satisfying. This is a company and team that simply loves what they do with a team they love as family- I even feel like they treated me as a family member. If I could give all the stars from heaven for this review I would do it!

Josh has come to our home twice to service our Mitsubishi mini- split. He is very thorough, professional, personable and remembered our dogs name and gave her a treat! Josh came out to diagnose my AC not kicking on. He quickly traced the issue, and cleaned the outside unit and did a little upgrade to help reduce west and voltage on startup. Very professional and friendly. Would highly recommend him and Sears H&C!

Got called to a home in Clintonville where the homeowner said the back two bedrooms had been running warmer than the rest of the house for most of the summer and the thermostat for that zone had been calling without stopping. Inspected the zoning system and found the damper actuator serving the back bedroom zone had seized in the closed position, cutting off supply air to that side of the house entirely while the main zone continued operating normally. Replaced the actuator, cycled the damper through its full range of motion under zone control, and verified thermostat communication with the zone control panel. Back bedrooms were pulling down to temperature within the first full cooling cycle after the repair.

Responded to a home in Marble Cliff where the homeowner said the AC had been laboring to start on hot afternoons and during the inspection the condenser coil turned out to be severely packed with cottonwood and seed debris from the tree line behind the property. Two problems working together on the same visit. Replaced the weakened dual-run capacitor and installed a hard start kit to reduce startup amp draw and give the compressor a clean start every cycle, then cleaned the condenser coil with a low-pressure rinse to restore heat transfer. Tested startup through the hottest part of the afternoon and confirmed the system was coming on quietly and cooling efficiently. One visit, two fixes, one properly running system.

Arrived at a small professional office in Reynoldsburg where the property manager said one section of the building had been running warmer than the rest all summer and the rooftop unit serving that section appeared to be operating normally. Inspected the package unit and found the economizer damper stuck fully open, pulling in hot outdoor air continuously instead of recirculating return air. On a hot Ohio summer afternoon that is essentially adding a constant outdoor heat load directly into the supply air on every cycle. Closed and locked the economizer to a proper minimum position, verified damper operation through the control board, and tested cooling output under occupied load. Section was pulling down to temperature within the first full cycle after the repair.

Got called to a home in Delaware where the homeowner had been dealing with excessive dust on every surface and worsening allergy symptoms that had been getting noticeably worse through the summer. The system was cooling fine but the standard filter setup was simply not adequate for the level of particulate and allergen this household needed to control through a Central Ohio summer. Installed an AprilAire whole-home media filtration system in the return duct, sealed all cabinet transitions for a proper airtight fit, checked static pressure to confirm airflow was not adversely affected, and reviewed the filter replacement schedule before leaving. Air coming through the supply registers smelled noticeably cleaner before I made it back to the truck.

Headed to a home in Sunbury where the homeowner had finished converting the three-season sunroom into a heated and cooled year-round space over the winter and had been running a portable unit in there all summer because the central system had never reached the addition. Installed a properly sized ductless mini-split, mounted the indoor wall unit on the wall opposite the main windows for optimal airflow across the room, routed refrigerant lines and wiring through the exterior wall to the outdoor compressor, and tested cooling through several demand cycles. Room went from a summer hot box to a comfortable living space in one visit. Homeowner said they wished they had done it when they finished the room.

Inspected the drain pan and found a hairline crack along the bottom seam that had been leaking slowly for long enough to stain the floor beneath the unit. Replaced the drain pan with a new properly fitted unit, verified the drain connection was sealed, and ran the system through a full cooling cycle while monitoring the new pan for any seepage. Dry before I left. A cracked pan is not a common finding but it is exactly the kind of thing that keeps quietly making a mess until someone looks at the right part.

Arrived at a home in the Worthington Estates area where the homeowner said the house felt uncomfortably dry during the AC season and the family had been dealing with irritated sinuses in the mornings and static electricity on the carpet throughout the summer. Running the AC steadily through a Central Ohio summer pulls moisture out of the air and without any humidity replacement the house can drop below a comfortable range without the homeowner ever connecting it to the HVAC system. Installed a whole-home humidifier on the supply plenum, connected the water supply line and solenoid valve, wired the humidistat to the system, and tested operation through a full cooling and fan cycle. Problem solved before the dry conditions got any worse.

Repaired the fitting, pressure tested with nitrogen, pulled a vacuum, and recharged to Bryant specification.
